Where the Sky Meets the Sea - RiverClan & SkyClan

OOC: after SkyClan flees to the river to escape the fire, they run into RiverClan As they head to Fourtrees and eventually Highstones

However, SkyClan is unaware of the flood. Have your cats react however, as the majority of SkyClan will be caught in the water, however not every cat has to be caught in the flood! RiverClan cats can react however they wish, and this topic will conclude quickly so that we can carry onto Highstones.

Sneezefeather stumbled as she hurried after Rustwood, sides heaving with exhaustion. Her head was spinning and the tears refused to stop falling. She was only standing due to pure adrenaline, and as soon as it were to ware off, she'd flop over instantly. A brown pointed kit hung from her jaws, putting up a pitiful fight before her squirming ceased entirely.

Blue eyes watched cats cross over the rocks. First one, then two, then six. Then it was her turn. Coppersun was right behind her, Havenkit and Flamekit in his jaws. Snoutkit's eerily limp body was in the jaws of Barkleaf, and Stagkit was entrusted to Buzzardmask, Astersage's mate. But before the pair could cross, a rumbling filled her ears, and an unidentified voice yowled, "Watch out!"

Water crashed on top of her, and she had to resist the urge to gasp in order to keep Beechkit in her mouth. Flailing her paws wildly, Sneezefeather fought to get to the surface, and was more than relieved when a cat dived in to help her, nudging her to the surface. Despite how much she wanted to, she refused to take huge gulps of air through her maw, so she breathed in as much as she could with her nose, as the brown tabby lead her to shore.

She barely had time to say thank you before he dived back into the rushing river, a big black and white apprentice-- warrior?-- dashing past her and diving straight into the river. Coughing, she heaved herself up. "Is-- is every cat okay?" the SkyClan warrior sputtered, coughing up water. Her legs shook, but she didn't fall and tired eyes scanned the clearing.

That's when she saw them. The small black and ginger bodies of Havenkit and Flamekit. The black and white apprentice stood over them sorrowfully, her eyes filled with sorrow and grief. "N-no.. Coppersun! Copper-- where.. where are you?"


As if on que, the soaking pelt of Coppersun flopped down beside her, half drowned but alive, with Stagkit (breathing, thankfully) beside him. Blinking, Sneezefeather spotted the tabby warrior who'd saved her and Beechkit. "Thank you," Sneezefeather whispered, and looked around at the gather cats, "We- we need to go. RiverClan, please, help us get to Highstones. We're in no c-c-condition to travel now." As if on cue, she shivered, freezing cold from the river.

Despite how proud some of her Clanmates could be, she knew they'd understand eventually. Showing a little weakness was okay in a time as dire as this.

The large tom led the Clan, golden eyes searching for any patrols or cats that have the same path. They could not afford to wait for one as flames devoured their home, so he gave the order to cross the river. RiverClan would understand, surely; this was no squabble of borders. It was a matter of survival. Rustwood allowed his Clanmates to go before him. It was safer on the other side, and he would rather himself be hurt than them. A few apprentices and warriors crossed first, teetering on the unfamiliar stones, but without much casualty. Queens, elders, and kits followed, with warriors assisting them.

Rustwood’s eyes fell down to the ground as he noticed water lapping around his paws. To be expected, near a river… but he was hardly at the bank. Just as he straightened, a yowl erupted into the air. Before he could identify the voice and the words, water swept the tom off of his paws. Prepared to breathe air in a second earlier, he coughed as water was sucked into his lungs. His bulky, fluffy form was weighed down easily, and waves seemed to crash into him every time he tried to swim up (which was an endeavor in itself). He couldn’t keep his eyes open much longer, and less so, the strength to keep fighting.

A mass of fur slammed into him, and in the river, Rustwood jolted, paws lashing out. It pushed him up, little by little, until finally his head broke the waves. He gasped for breath, inhaling the precious air, unable to keep his head above the water without whoever was helping him. Gasps turned into coughs, until he was pushed towards the shore, where he proceed to vomit water into the sand. He turned to thank his rescuer, but they were already gone - he saw the white tip of an orange tail dive back into the water, ready to save others.

He scanned the river, searching for survivors. There were RiverClan cats now, helping, but he could not find their leader. His throat and eyes stung, but he forced himself to his feet, leaning onto a willow tree for support. “RiverClan,” he called hoarsely. “And SkyClan… There has been a fire, we are on our way t-to Highstones.” There was a pause as he fought to catch his breath. Those words alone had knocked the wind out of him. “Clearly, we are… unfit to travel without help. If you would be-” He had a coughing fit that seemed to seize his ribs. “-nice enough to assist us, perhaps come with us, that would be much appreciated.”

Those words would be the most he said for a while, Rustwood decided, as his head swam and vision blurred. He was not aware of who exactly survived, of his Clan, but even in this half-drowned state could recognize and be thankful for RiverClan’s help. If they did not choose to aid them to Highstones, that would be unpleasant, but they had saved SkyClan just by rescuing them from the flood.

Flashlight was loathe to admit any real concern for SkyClan, but she wouldn't let RiverClan bear the blame for their destruction if she could help it. So it was that she made her way toward the river, accompanied only by the bravest (or perhaps the most foolish) of her clanmates. Before too long, SkyClan made themselves known, attempting to cross into their territory. "SkyClan. Always late to the celebration," she muttered to herself.

She met the eyes of what seemed to be their leader. "Fire? Never mind, we don't have the time for irony right now. As you can see, the river's flooded, we're evacuating - we came to warn you. Highstones, good. That's where we're heading. RiverClan, help these drypaws get to shore - and make sure they don't drown on the way, if you can help it."

With her orders given, she dove into the water to lend her own assistance. This was something she knew well - swimming, diving; she was most herself when her pelt was soaked through, like any true RiverClan cat, but even among her peers she possessed fairly exceptional talent when it came to anything to do with the water. Now that talent would be of some use, as she helped nudge the SkyClan cats she could reach to relative safety.
