Welcome to Sanctuary! Read the site rules, then go post a creation! Thanks for checking us out!
Sanctuary is now open to the public! If you'd like to join our Discord, please check the sticky announcement!
Please feel free to invite your friends to Sanctuary and to advertise! The more the merrier!
Please never feel nervous to reach out to the coordinator team, or any member of Sanctuary! We aren't staff, but we make sure peace is kept, and if you have a question please just ask!
Disasters have struck the forest, and with heavy hearts the Clan cats, along with some loner friends, now must decide what the next step is. Olivestar's mate, Zinnia, has suggested they go to her homelands after recuperating, and it seems every cat agrees that is the best idea yet.
Please have a wonderful time here, roleplaying and making friends!

Trait System

Cats on Sanctuary have a number of traits based on their rank, personality, and skills. Some Traits allow the use of special battle moves, or other benefits, but overall they'll impact how your character is perceived by others (and usually how they'll act).

Traits are separated by category into Rank Traits, Personal Traits, Clan Traits, and Loner Traits.

Character Trait List Examples

Olivestar; WindClan Leader
[Clan] WindClan's Domain: The wide open hills of your moor home have given you the speed and agility to dodge many incoming attacks, but in areas with dense undergrowth, you'll be caught in the thorns.
Moor-runner: You run with the wind at your back; you're faster than most other cats, and even predators have a hard time keeping pace with you.
[Rank - Leader] Nine Lives: StarClan has recognized you as a worthy leader, and granted you nine lives with which to serve your clan.
Make Love, Not War: Rather than rule over your Clan, you prefer to lead it more gently, treating others as your equal and approaching things diplomatically. Other groups of cats may see you as a pushover, or may be more likely to help you because of your genuine approach.
Renowned: Your reputation precedes you. Most cats know your name at first mention - even those from other clans - and even the rowdiest of apprentices are likely to listen to you without hesitation.
[Personal 1] Kind-Hearted: Your gentle heart shines through even as a warrior. You might not be as aggressive as other cats, but others can usually see your good intent when it's present
[Personal 2] Quick Reflexes: You have a shockingly swift reaction speed. It’s incredibly difficult to take you by surprise.
[Personal 3] Collector: You have an eye for shiny baubles and colorful trinkets, and are always searching for something to add to your growing collection.
[Personal 4] Perceptive: You have unusually keen eyesight, and nothing gets by you. You're likely to find what you're looking for when you're on watch or searching for something.
[Learned] N/A

Rank Traits

Kit
Cute Charm: Small and helpless, you manage to effortlessly charm those around you. Most cats won't dare to harm you.

Apprentice
Innocent: You're just a child; you're not a danger to anyone (usually). As long as you keep your head down, other cats probably won't hurt you unless they're especially cruel.
or
Reckless: You have a tendency to charge ahead without thinking twice, often finding yourself in trouble as a result. Somehow, though, you always seem to escape relatively unscathed.

Warrior
Warrior’s Honor: You’ve taken an oath to serve your clan, and earned the respect of your clanmates.
or
Outcast: You've forsaken Clan society, and you've learned to survive on your own. You know how to find safe places to sleep, eat, and hunt in the wild.

Queen
Protective: Those younger than you are under your protection, and you'll die before you see them hurt. When fighting in defense of another, you're a force to be reckoned with.
or
Strict: You're well known by the kits as being a "party pooper". Your strict adherence to the rules as to keep them safe has earned you an arguably bad rep (in kit standards, at least) as being no fun and bossy, and thus are less likely to be approached by younger cats.
or
Lively: Your playful demeanor serves you well when dealing with kits. You're practically one of them! While occasionally you can be strict or stern with them, for the most part you are considered fun and are often approached to play mossball or be shown a fancy bug the kits found!
or
Soothing: One kit got a scraped pad while play fighting? Well, say no more! While this queen may not be a medicine cat, the love and care from her gentle licks is enough to comfort any kit and dry almost every tear.
or
Gruff: To say you have a good reputation would be a lie. You're well known in the nursery as being rude and snappy, and most kits steer clear of you! More troublesome kits may attempt to push your buttons, but a couple retorts from your sharp tongue will send them running.

Elder
Storyteller: This elder has some of the best stories, paws down. Expect kits to crowd around them during story time!
or
Back In My Day: This elder thinks they're a storyteller, but in reality, even the kits can pick up on the varying differences in each telling of the same story. They probably don't have the best memory, and nearly each story starts out with the phrase "back in my day," or some variation of it.
or
Grouchy: Well known for their constant stream of complaints, they definitely aren't the most popular in the Elder's den, and the apprentices in particular loathe taking care of their ticks and nest.
or
Sleepy: More often than not, you'll catch this elder fast asleep! They're rather lazy and good natured, but are grumpy when disturbed from a nap.
or
Gentle: Known as one of the nicest cats in the Clan, kits absolutely adore you! When nap time and story time comes around, expect to be bombed with requests to snuggle! You'll also be one of the first the kits run to to show off a "battle" move or a hunting crouch learned from a warrior or apprentice.
or
Early Retirement: Forced to retire before reaching elder age due to circumstance or injury, these cats are elders in name only. They may be bitter over losing their previous freedom.

Senior Warrior & All Higher Ranks
Renowned: Your reputation precedes you. Most cats know your name at first mention - even those from other clans - and even the rowdiest of apprentices are likely to listen to you without hesitation.

Medicine Cat Apprentice
Initiate: You have accepted initiation into the mysteries of StarClan and the ways of healing. You are due more respect than most cats your age, and those who would dare to attack you are frowned upon.

Medicine Cat
Resourceful: You know how to make the best of your environment. Even in the most adverse of situations, you can usually find the herbs you're looking for, or a suitable alternative.
or
Spiritual: You have a strong connection to your ancestors, and when you call for aid they will listen. Omens and interpretations of prophecy come easily to you.
&
Healing Heart: Your presence is a comfort to the injured; even just being around you is enough to rejuvenate the stamina of those who need it most. It won't cure their wounds, of course, but that's what your training is for.
or
Field Medic: Your bedside manner leaves something to be desired, but your skills are second to none. There's no injury you can't diagnose, and all but the most severe are within your skill to treat.
&
[Requirement: Warrior Training] StarClan's Fury: Should you choose to fight, the fury of your ancestors guides your paws.

Deputy
Second in Command: You’re the leader’s trusted second. When you speak, your clanmates listen, and every eye is on you.

Leader
Nine Lives: StarClan has recognized you as a worthy leader, and granted you nine lives with which to serve your clan.
&
Better Feared Than Loved: You rule your Clan with an iron grip, utilizing war and combat to expand your influence over your Clan and strike fear into your enemies. Other groups of cats may see you as a threat, or may avoid crossing you to avoid your ire.
or
Make Love, Not War: Rather than rule over your Clan, you prefer to lead it more gently, treating others as your equal and approaching things diplomatically. Other groups of cats may see you as a pushover, or may be more likely to help you because of your genuine approach.
or
Hot and Cold: Your Clanmates have seen your kindness and love, and while other Clans occasionally see snippets of it, they mostly know the cold persona they've grown accustomed to. Very rarely do your own Clanmates see the frosty wraith that lurks within.

Personal Traits

Kind-Hearted: Your gentle heart shines through even as a warrior. You might not be as aggressive as other cats, but others can usually see your good intent when it's present. [Requirement: Innocent]

Naive: It's not difficult at all to endear yourself to others, though you're easily led astray. [Requirement: Innocent]

Daredevil: Your reckless tendencies haven't died down in the slightest. You're first into the fray, and when you attempt to do something wild and unspeakably dangerous, you're probably going to pull it off. [Requirement: Reckless]

Inspirational: When you speak, the whole world listens; your words can inspire your audience more easily than most, as long as your arguments are still persuasive.

Camouflage: You know how to blend into the terrain and minimise your profile. When hunting, stalking or hiding, you're harder to detect visually.

Unfazed: You are not easily frightened by the intimidation tactics of other cats or predators.

Perceptive: You have unusually keen eyesight, and nothing gets by you. You're likely to find what you're looking for when you're on watch or searching for something.

Quick Reflexes: You have a shockingly swift reaction speed. It’s incredibly difficult to take you by surprise.

First Aid: You've learned the basics of healing - poppy seeds, moss, feverfew and the like. You can't treat more serious wounds or illnesses, but with some time, effort and resources, you can deal with mild injuries, and lessen moderate ones.

Self-Preservation: While some would recklessly fight until their last breath, you know that running is what keeps you alive. You're more skilled than most when it comes to escaping hopeless situations.

Spiritual Guidance: Whether through your actions or sheer circumstance, you have gained the attention of your ancestors. They may choose to visit you in your dreams and offer their guidance or insight, but know that their eyes are set on you - because you have earned their favor, they may judge your mistakes more harshly than most.

Lorekeeper: The stories of your people are well known to you, be they fact or fiction. You have a wealth of knowledge gained from listening carefully to the words of your elders.

Collector: You have an eye for shiny baubles and colorful trinkets, and are always searching for something to add to your growing collection.

Quick-Tempered: You're infamous for your short fuse, and it doesn't take a lot to make you snap. Sometimes it's a curse, but yet, sometimes a blessing.

Mediator: Your willingness to listen makes you an ideal candidate to solve the disputes of others.

Allure: Your appearance is notably striking, and you're very much aware of it. You've learned how to capture the attention of those around you, for better or for worse.

Ruthless: You can see the bright, clear line that leads from one point to the next. Regardless of the consequences, you can see the solution to whatever problem is placed before you, and that is what matters most.

Relaxed: You tend not to worry about the small stuff, preferring to live in the moment. Take it day by day and the rest will sort itself out.

Own Tempo: You see the world differently than most, and that means others don't always understand you.

Skittish: You're easily spooked, and often somewhat nervous, but you tend to escape dangerous situations unscathed.

Social Butterfly: You're especially outgoing, and are likely to be popular among your peers. There's a good chance that others look up to you.

Brutal Honesty: You're known for your honesty, and cats know they can always come to you for an honest answer, even if it isn't the one they wanted to hear.

Judgemental: The phrase "first impressions are the most important" is held very closely to you. You aren't one to forget a grudge, and you aren't easy to get close to.

Patient: You're gentle and easygoing as you wait for other cats to achieve their goals. You're mostly content to watch and wait for your time to shine. As a result, some cats might see you as a pushover.

Undying Loyalty: Those you've closely bonded to with find a lifelong companion in you. Should they need you, they know you'll defend their honor, integrity, and themselves with your life if you must, and you hope they'd do the same for you.

Determined: Once you set your mind to something, it's going to get done, one way or another. While your persistence is admirable, your stubborn nature can often be a source of obstacles.

Vengeful: You always get back at those who've wronged you. One thing is for certain; when someone wrongs you, you'll make it right, one way or another.

Merciful: You believe strongly in the philosophy of 'forgive and forget'. Others might view you as a pushover, but you'd rather them think that than be cruel. You're certainly kinder than most.

Creative: You're well known for your unique and creative ideas, and many apprentices like to ask you for inspiration for their coming of age ceremonies.

Emotional: You're known for not having much control over your emotions, and it's not hard to get you to produce tears. However, others know you're always genuine about them, and that builds some level of trust.

Oracle: You're naturally talented at finding and understanding omens in the things around you.

Clan Traits

WindClan
Moor-Runner: The vast majority of WindClan warriors, moor-runners are what most cats think of when they think WindClan. Usually tall and lithe, they’re capable hunters - their swift paws and high endurance allows them to chase down the rabbits and hares that wander the moor with relative ease.
or
Tunneler: Tunnelers are adept at navigating the winding paths that run beneath WindClan’s territory. Often seeming slow and meticulous compared to their moor-running counterparts, they know that everything they do must be done with perfect precision to minimize the risks. A select few are skilled at both hunting and fighting underground.
&
WindClan's Domain: The wide open hills of your moor home have given you the speed and agility to dodge many incoming attacks, but in areas with dense undergrowth, you'll be caught in the thorns.

RiverClan
Diver: RiverClan’s divers feel most at home when their fur is soaked through. The water, both its surface and its depths, is their happy place. Their graceful movements and practiced precision are accompanied by a willingness to dive entirely beneath the water’s surface - usually for the sake of chasing prey, but sometimes simply for its own sake.
or
Drypaw: A relatively small minority of RiverClan cats, drypaws prefer to avoid getting their fur wet whenever they can. They tend toward being excellent at hunting land-prey and are usually especially skilled in the arts of combat.
&
RiverClan's Domain: Your unique swimming ability has given you the advantage in combat that takes place near the river or an otherwise wet area, but this tends to leave you lumbering slowly in drier spaces.

ThunderClan
Fighter: Combat specialists that feel most at home on the battlefield, fighters tend to be large and bulky. They’re powerful and heavy hitters, and they’re the best at what they do, but as a result of their stature and the power placed behind their movements they tend to not be the best at things that call for precision.
or
Tracker: Typically somewhat lacking in combat prowess, trackers are excellent hunters and skilled strategists. They’re the ones making and refining plans for anything and everything, or the ones tailing a single squirrel for hours at a time to find the place it makes its nest.
&
ThunderClan's Domain: You've learned how to use the densely packed forests of your home to your advantage, either by forcing your unwitting opponents into the undergrowth, or by using it as a shield. However, this leaves you vulnerable in areas without dense undergrowth

ShadowClan
Shadowstep: Shadowsteps are the sort of cats that all but vanish from sight when they don’t want to be seen; experts at minimizing their own presence. Relatively silent and swift to react to any possible threats, this particular set of skills makes them excellent hunters and especially skilled at ambushing their targets.
or
Marshwalker: Marshwalkers are skilled at navigating the deepest marshes of ShadowClan’s territory - they know the exact placement of each submerged stone by heart, having long since memorized the winding paths. They tend to be more straightforward and combat-oriented than their shadowstep counterparts.
&
ShadowClan's Domain: The sparse growth of the marshlands and the wet ground underfoot has led to your light step and quick reflexes. That, combined with nocturnal tendencies, is a great combo when used effectively. When caught in the day, and in more densely forested places, the bushes are more a hindrance than an asset.

SkyClan
Flier: The swiftest and leanest of SkyClan cats, the lithe fliers reach the tallest and thinnest branches. Excellent hunters and trackers, they can make their way to a bird’s nest with relative ease.
or
Jumper: While fliers are all about finesse, jumpers are all about power. They tend to stick to the lower branches, as treetop combat is their specialty - dropping out of the trees to ambush unsuspecting opponents.
&
SkyClan's Domain: The sky is your domain, and you've learned how to utilize the height advantage provided by the trees you call home. In more sparsely forested areas, however, you're left stranded.

Loner Traits

Personal Traits
Healer: You've received training in the arts of healing, or simply gained a great deal of field experience. You're now a capable healer in your own right.

Nightingales
Nightingale: Your history and home alike are twined in song, and the song of that legacy is yours to sing.
&
Songbird: You possess undeniable musical talent, and knowledge of several Nightingale songs.
Artisan: Yours is the art of creation. From flower stems to predator pelts, the world is your canvas.
Dancer: Swifter and lighter on your paws than most, your movements are almost always graceful.
Philosopher: Thoughtful and innovative, you’re always on the verge of discovery and willing to explore new ideas.

Garden
Garden-dweller: You're most at home surrounded by nature, and dedicate yourself to preserving its balance.
or
Drifter: The winds call to you, like leaves drifting on the breeze, and they have led you away from the place you once called home. Though you wander far, the guiding light of your ancestors still shines for you.
&
Flower Tender: You’ve come to understand the basics of caring for the world around you, and are more in tune with nature than most.
Natural Artist: You’ve grown adept at fashioning things out of the plants that surround you, from simple flower wreaths to more elaborate designs.
Navigator: You've spent long enough studying the sky to know that the stars will always lead you home.

Sky Runners
Sky Runner: You feel most at ease in the mountains that your commune calls home, and you dedicate your life to trying to cross the barrier between land and sky. You are a collector by nature, and are drawn to shiny rocks and other colorful objects. Runners are also known for their hospitality, never turning away cats in need.
&
Cliff Runner: You're sure-footed and quick, dashing along precipices that other cats wouldn't dare set foot towards with incredible speed and agility. Unusually nimble and quick, you're really hard to hit, let alone pin down. However, you need to rely more on smarts and speed to fight your battles.
or
Mountain Tunneler: You're stocky and slow, but incredibly strong, and unafraid to delve into the deepest of tunnels that run through the mountain that you call home. You're not bothered by enclosed spaces, and can easily navigate in little to no light.
&
Jeweler: You've learned how to and are skilled in the art of turning the precious stones that your fellow Runners covet into wearable items.
Storyteller: You're a walking library of the Runner stories that have been passed down orally from generation to generation.
Dye-crafter: You've learned how to make the various pigments and dyes that you and your fellow Runners paint themselves with.
Pelt-preserver: You're practiced in the art and careful handiwork of preserving the bird pelts that you and your fellow Runners wear.
